The United Kingdom Sailing Academy is a registered charity and a non profit making organisation. It was set up with the specific aim of providing top quality seamanship and sailing training. Since its inception in 1987 the Academy has established a global reputation for excellence in a multitude of training areas. Backed by an Ł11 million trust fund the organisations future is secured for many years to come.
UKSA Excellence in Career Training
Much our work centres on excellence in yacht and watersports training provision. We offer a wide variety of courses designed to train for the top career jobs our industry. These courses largely focus around world class RYA and MCA examined certification. Whether your a watersports fanatic wanting to instruct or a yachtsman wanting to take command of a large commercial sailing vessel our programmes offer the best possible chance of a successful career in your chosen field. Training takes place in West Cowes, Barbados and aboard our yacht fleet in the caribbean. 98% of our career training students find employment within two months of finishing their training at the Academy.
MCA Officer Training
As part of our ongoing commitment to service in the yachting industry we are now training for MCA Deck Officer Trainning. These MCA acredited course modules entitle the holder to command vessels up to 3,000 Grt ( the size of a Frigate )
Charitable Works
The UKSA’s charitable activities span a wide range of good causes. Over the years we have supported RYA Sailability to the tune of over Ł100k in the form of cash funding and use of our facilities. In addition we have given away over Ł0.5m in Sponsorship to support youth Britain which constituted the single most benevolent gesture in the history of British Youth Sailing. More recently we have donated craft to other Sailing Trusts such as a Drascombe Longboat to a group of Sea Scouts in a Ł35k donation to help the London Sailing Project buy a new yacht and Ł26k to the meridian Trust to help them buy a new yacht and fund a new staff training programmeOn a more local level UKSA has, for the Island Youth Initiative for young people considered to be at risk by local teachers and social workers. This project has been given Home Office approval and information about success has been disseminatedsupports on average about Ł30k worth of Schools Bursary places each season to ensure that especially deserving cases who want to experience watersports but cannotto do so are not excluded from the experience.
